Steps to Building with Bakken Homes
- Introduction meeting
- Design and specification meetings (expect to meet 2-3 times); Together we fine tune your plan, schedule, and budget.
- Financial approvals - Construction loan approval
- Purchase agreement - Signing and spec contract approval
- Close construction Loan – Close on lot if necessary
- Set construction schedule / Begin construction (typically 4-6 months)
- Exterior selections at Floor to Ceiling (45 minutes to 1 hour); Exterior selection due date;
- Interior selections at Floor to Ceiling (2 hours); Trim, doors, paint, carpet, cabinets, countertops, etc…; Interior selection due date;
- Appliance selections at Guyers; Due with interior selections
- Plumbing selections at Bergman Plumbing or Ferguson Bath & Kitchen Gallery with plumber; Plumbing selection due date;
- Electrical / HVAC / Plumbing on-site walk-through with sub contractors and Bakken representative.
- Lighting selection at Southern Lights or Highlights (1 hour)
- Miscellaneous walk through appointments during particular phases of construction.
- Final walk-through - finalize punch list – home orientation
- Close and Move in!
- Final grade, sidewalks, driveway, exterior painting (if building in winter months)
- One year anniversary walk-through
At the time of final walk through we will address any questions or concerns you have about your new home. We will also familiarize you with your home equipment, and varying maintenance items that pertain to your home. Sometimes we need to order any missing parts, or schedule tune ups. These may not be finished completely before closing, but will be taken care of as promptly as possible.
We will send a reminder of your one year walk through after 11 months. It is your responsibility to schedule with us before the first year is through. Any minor areas of adjustment should wait until this walkthrough. Should a major issue arise it should be reported to us as soon as possible.
